The Samson C01 Studio Condenser Microphone
The Samson C01 Studio Condenser Microphone. An entry level Condenser, but there is not a lot that is “entry level” about it besides the price.
In a world where choice is key, and information is right at our fingertips, creating a product that keeps up with the constantly changing playing field while retaining the essence of what it originally set out to do speaks volumes about the manufacturer. You may call it high praise, but this is merely my stand point on the team producing Samson microphones. The saying goes, “if it aint broke, don’t fix it”, and I firmly believe that this is an ethos that Samson(tech) live by. Case in point, the versatile Samson C01 Condenser microphone.
With its 19mm ultra-thin diaphragm, smooth cardioid pickup pattern and gold plated XLR connectors, this is a condenser that can serve the newbie recording enthusiast or podcaster, all the way to the professional engineer looking for a microphone that sounds great no matter what you aim it at. Whilst the response has had some colouring, warmer bass pickup and extended top end, this is the type of colouring that usually brings out the best of the vocal or instrument you put it on. While Microphone placement and preamps also play a role behind the scenes, without these elements, this microphone simply gets the job done without much fuss.
The housing of this mic is made of high gauge metal, really super tough and robust. The blue LED Phantom power indicator on the front of the housing is a nice touch, and adds a little bit of “mood lighting” into your studio room or booth. Topping off this killer package is the Hard Shell case supplied with the microphone.
Samson sells an optional shockmount, the SP01, to compliment this mic, and together you will have a microphone setup that will keep you on track (lol) for years to come. This is one of those microphones that you will keep in your cabinet as your studio grows, even when you invest in higher end kit.
